Robert Milby of Florida, NY is a freelance writer, who has been reading his poetry in the Hudson Valley, NYC, Long Island, NJ, PA, and New England since March, 1995. He’s given over 450 featured readings and has been onstage in front of poetry crowds over 1,500 times, including: featured readings, open mics, workshops, lectures, presentations, radio commentary, indoor & outdoor festivals, independent tv shows, etc.

He self-published 4 poetry chapbooks from 1998-2004, two of which were illustrated by artist Phillip Guston’s grandson, David Kadish. His chapbook: Crow Weather (Fierce Grace Press, Pooler, Ga, was published in August, 2009). The chapbook: Dickens’ Pet Raven (Fierce Grace Press, Wilmington, DE 2014). His first book of poetry is Ophelia’s Offspring(Foothills Publishing, Kanona, NY 2007). His 1st spoken word CD is Revenant Echo(Sonotrope Recordings, High Falls, NY 2004), 2ndspoken word CD is Underground(APB Production, Wallkill, NY 2008). Several poems appear in Ghost Prints (Black Bed Sheet Books, 2010) with stories by Horror Novelist, Jason Gehlert. A 2nd book: Victorian House: Ghosts and Gothic Poems (Lion Autumn Music Publishing, Manhattan, NY, 2015). He is a listed poet with Poets & Writers, Inc. of NYC. Invited poet, Spring Semester, SUNY Oneonta, 2003 and SUNY Oswego for National Poetry Month, 2009. SUNY Cobleskill, 2017 and 2018, and Mount Saint Mary College, 2015 and 2018.
He conducts readings, and writing workshops in schools and culture centers throughout the Hudson Valley.
Milby has hosted 30 poetry series since 1995. Currently hosts 7 Hudson Valley poetry readings. He wrote for the arts newspaper, the Delaware and Hudson CANVAS from 2004-2009 and from 2014 to present. He reviewed books for Kirkus Reviews in 2011. He also wrote the column: Poets Comitatus: Dead Poets of the Hudson Valley, for Heyday Magazine. Milby was voted Best Poet, in Middletown, NY’s Times Herald-Record’s Annual Best Of listings in 2010 and 2011. He has worked with musicians since 1998. Each October, since 2003, he and performance artist, Carl Welden conjure Theremin Ghosts! a local poetry and Theremin performance,( based in New Paltz, NY, at Mudd Puddle Cafe) and travel throughout the region presenting one of the most unusual shows ever to haunt Hudson Valley theatres and cafes. He was a member of the Woodstock Poetry Society, and was a board member of Calling All Poets, in New Paltz, NY, as well as a co-host of the CAPs poetry series, from 1999 to 2016. Milby was an instructor and founding member of the innovative, Northeast Poetry Center’s College of Poetry, creative writing courses, in Warwick, NY, then at the Seligmann Center, in Sugar Loaf, NY. In May, 2017, he became Poet Laureate of Orange County, NY. The term runs from May, 2017 until Nov., 2019. His chapbook, Gothic, Orange (poems inspired by Orange County, NY) was published through the County Historian’s office, in October, 2018.
